The Great Waterway / South Eastern Ontario

The Great Waterway region in south eastern Ontario has a wide range of bicycle routes that take cyclists across the region through vibrant communities, alongside scenic waterways and to quiet rural and naturalized settings.

Explore from Quinte West, Belleville and Prince Edward County, continue eastward via Kingston and Gananoque, the 1000 Islands and the Waterfront Trail, Brockville, the St. Lawrence Seaway to Cornwall and the Quebec border. Additional road riding routes north of the lake and St. Lawrence take cyclists to the Rideau Heritage Route and Frontenac Arch Biosphere and connect with routes to Ottawa. Many point-to-point itineraries are easily completed using Bike Train transportation with VIA Rail.

  • Haldimand & Norfolk
    Haldimand & Norfolk

Haldimand and Norfolk Counties offer cyclists numerous appealing on-road cycling routes and off-road trails, whether along the north shore of Lake Erie, following the Grand River or through agricultural communities into quiet countryside. Cyclists can explore towns and cities en route and enjoy a full range of services catering to visitors year round.

The opening of the Lake Erie Waterfront Trail and Erie Coastal Stewardship Eco Trail in 2013 links the region to the existing Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail. The route follows the shoreline passing many beach and naturalized areas, local attractions, and well placed towns enroute.

An off road trail north from Port Dover, makes for a pleasant ride and is also an easy way to connect to Brantford and VIA Rail Bike Train options. Forest trails also offer mountain bikers a reason to journey to the region. Known for local foods, no cyclist will go hungry or thirsty pairing a cycling experience with culinary adventure in Norfolk and Haldimand Counties.
